This 1971 Baldwin Motion Phase III Camaro is an unrestored time capsule. It is the most featured 1971 Baldwin Motion Phase III Camaro of the three known Motion Camaros and it has been the subject of several car magazine articles for at least the past three decades. It’s shown here in the Real Day 2 display at the 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals otherwise known as MCACN.
The Baldwin Motion Phase III option can be easily identified by its trademark stripes which usually begin on top of a high rise L88 style fiberglass hood and extends over the trunk and around onto the rear fenders and beyond. Wide aluminum wheels with low profile tires are always a given, as are the traction bars.
It originally was a Cranberry Red Z28 Camaro with a factory 4-speed. It was converted by Joel Rosen of Motion Performance and sold as a brand new Motion Phase III Camaro by Baldwin Chevrolet. It acquired the nickname of “The Pennsylvania Dentist’s Car” many years ago simply because the first owner was a dentist from Pennsylvania. It’s extremely well documented with a huge amount of paperwork from all of the previous owners. Contained within all of this documentation are two letters of authenticity from Joel Rosen himself, plus a letter from the original owner! All of this documentation is contained within a trusty three ring binder.
The usual Phase III options are on this Camaro. The heart of the Motion Phase III option is the LS6 454 engine.
The LS6 454 was originally upgraded with a high rise intake manifold, a large Holley double pumper carburetor with a low restriction air cleaner. The high performance cylinder heads are covered with finned aluminum valve covers and the exhaust flows freely through headers and a low restriction exhaust system.
Yes, high performance cars could be purchased in the seventies as new cars, and for some of us who were lucky enough, these same high performance cars could be purchased again as used cars in the late seventies and early eighties.
You can always count on Muscle Car Life to present only the highest quality muscle cars such as this Baldwin Motion Phase III Camaro. Cars like this one can be seen in person at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals each year in Chicago the weekend before Thanksgiving.
